Living on Mull

It's now the time of year when summers ending, you bump into less and less tourists in the street. Slowly my friends are disappearing back to their respective universities one by one. Most people my age have moved away, growing up here I think they feel a need to see the bright lights of the cities and have freedom away from their parents.
I didn't grow up here though; I was born in Basildon in Essex and lived there until I was 15.

Every year my family and I used to Camp at Calgary (one of Mull's beaches) for our summer holidays. The end of one summer I was supposed to start attending Palmers collage in Essex once I got home. I felt my parents had always secretly wished they could live on Mull, but never wanted the hassle or to uproot me or leave their jobs and home. I felt I had to take action for my own future and my parent's happiness.
I was only 15 but I was very determined that we weren't going back home. Still living in a tent I enrolled at Tobermory high school. Still stinking of campfire smoke (god knows how I made friends) I'd wake up early each morning and take the Calgary bus to school. At lunchtimes I'd sneak away to the youth hostel or The Mishnish hotel for a shower, but I was happy.

I was frightened that my parents would make me leave the school at the end of their holiday so I asked them to come to the school parents evening. They were surprised to find out how small the class sizes were, art class was the smallest with only two other pupils! I loved that class not only because Art is one of the few things I feel I understand, but because of my Teacher.

But I feel I should start off at the beginning. I grew up in Essex near London with my two parents Pat and Hazel Morris. I went to Orsett C of E primary school, then St Clere's in Stanford le hope. My favourite subjects were Art, child development and Drama. I was always interested in media. I remember I would steal my father's video camera and spend hours setting up a studio and perfecting the lighting and set design.
I would make short 20 minute episodes. I mostly stuck to comedy, but also would include real-life dramas. One series of episodes, "The family" I feel was particularly hilarious. I used Barbie dolls as my characters and would take a snapshot of the cast in position then move them slightly and take another snapshot and so on until the series of movement made sense. Nowadays I have moved onto camera! And I am a little obsessed!

In my opinion, the best nature photos ever, are currently being shown in the Museum of Natural Sciences. They are shown from the 31st of January until the 2nd of April. Apparently the current exhibition is by a photographer from London (like me!). The Museum of Natural Sciences will be setting up many other nature photography exhibitions, which I look forward to.

According to newspapers, regarding the exhibitions, the most talented photographer was Máté Bence. Half a dozen of his pieces were shown. The picture named 'Washing Fox' was awarded in the animal portrait section.
The plant photographs category was won by Novák László. One of his pictures was also chosen among the best in the composition and form category. As well as the pictures of Hungarians, the travelling exhibition also contains unique black and white portraits showing the beauty of nature.
The brilliance of this exhibition is that the pictures were chosen by artists from all over the world.
